National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is on Saturday, Sept. 30th. Burnaby schools will be recognizing this day tomorrow, Friday Sept. 29.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, is a Canadian holiday to recognize the legacy of the Canadian Residential School system. It commemorates the residential school experience and honours the healing journey of the survivors and their families. It also shows commitment to the ongoing process of reconciliation.
Students at South Slope/ BCSD have been engaging in a variety of learning activities to deepen their understanding of Truth and Reconciliation. Tomorrow we will be acknowledging Orange Shirt Day by engaging in a reflective walk around the school, viewing the various activities students completed this week. Student work will be displayed on windows, visible to families as well.
All members of South Slope/BCSD are invited to wear orange shirts tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 29th, as a symbol of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.
As well, just a reminder that schools are closed Monday, Oct. 2nd in honour of this day.
Thank-you
South Slope/ BCSD Staff
