South Slope / BCSD Great Shake Out DRILL ( no evacuation of premises)
DROP, COVER, & HOLD: The initial response is what staff members and students must do to protect themselves while a tremor occurs.
- at the first indication of an earthquake, look for cover, drop to the floor (get under a desk or a table and hold onto the desk, or table leg), cover the head and the neck (face away from windows and heavy items), and count to 60 (1 min.).
- wait for an evacuation signal.
EMERGENCY Response Drills are practiced regularly at South Slope until teachers feel confident that students know exactly what to do in an emergency.
